Matsusaka cotton is still very popular for its chic indigo-colored striped pattern.
When cotton was introduced in the Muromachi period (1336-1573), many cotton plants were grown in the Matsusaka area. Eventually, Matsusaka cotton was born, and during the Edo period (1603-1867), it became popular among the people of Edo.
